Service Opportunities

The following Intergroup service positions are open. In keeping with the Twelfth Step, which emphasizes the importance of carrying the message to others and helping those who still suffer from addiction, and Tradition Five, which states that each group has one primary purpose – to carry our message to those who still suffer – we ask our fellowship to consider stepping into one of the following roles.

In addition to the brief description of responsibilities provided below, all positions are expected to attend monthly Intergroup board meetings. Intergroup board meetings occur on the third Sunday of each month from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Term: Through the end of 2026 with one-year renewal, if desired

Qualifications: 6 months of abstinence; regular attendance at meetings; actively working the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts

All positions are expected to attend and report at the monthly IG Board meeting (third Sunday of each month from 5:30-7:00 p.m. via Zoom).

Twelfth Step Within (TSW) Committee Chair

12th Step Within Statement of Purpose Our 12th Step in Overeaters Anonymous tells us to “carry the message to compulsive overeaters…” The primary purpose of the Twelfth Step Within is to carry that same message to those who still suffer within the OA fellowship. The Twelfth Step Within Committee deals largely with relapse and issues of membership retention – the message is hope.

    • With the support of a committee, put on a workshop for the members of SCMC OA that addresses the issues of abstinence, and recovery from relapse.
    • Distribute Sponsorship Kits to members wishing to purchase a kit.
    • Welcome newcomers and anyone who identifies as returning from relapse, offering support such as literature, assistance getting a sponsor, or simply talking.
    • Create a team of Newcomer Greeters and meet with them monthly support in helping their fellows find relief from struggles with relapse.
